I've been involved with the horse world since I was a little girl. I tore up the neighborhood on my first pony. When I turned 16, my Aunt took me to a wild mustang adoption sale. Little did she know that I would end up picking out the most gangly colt and convince her to adopt him for me. I thought she was going to fall over when they loaded him up and hauled him home for us. You learn alot of patience when dealing with such a wild and untrusting animal. It wasn't long before I was climbing on him.
Not long after that we became apart of the quarterhorse world with the help of our neighbors who owned a stud and a couple of mares. Shortly after that I became involved in barrel racing along with other speed events.
Now I love to load up the horses and go camping and trail riding with my daughter and friends.
I enjoy Ranch Sorting and I've even tried my hand at Cutting; what a rush that was.
My technique in training is to have the horse understand the correct response by releasing pressure when the right response is given.
Slow and steady, asking for a lot of respect on the ground and under saddle.
I've picked up alot of working techniques from clinicians like Clinton Anderson, Chris Cox, and Craig Cameron. Love that RFDTV.
My daughter helps me with training by getting in the saddle and acting as a passenger as I work the horse in the round pen. She loves being around horses and being a part of the training process. She also spends her summers working with another trainer and helping others with their horses.
We are also involved in FFA in which my daughter shows her projects. She won Grand Champion in her division her first year.
My daughter and I also enjoy being members of the Smithville Youth Rodeo where she competes in speed events and goat tying.
I'm Assistant Trail Boss with The Official Texas Star Trail Ride, Inc. which covers over 100 miles in a week ending up at the Star of Texas Fair & Rodeo of Austin. I also volunteer at the Rodeo.
I'm just a Cowgirl at heart who loves to spend time outdoors with my Family, Friends and Horses. There's nothing better for the Heart than to have your hands on a Horse.
Taking a break.....wagon on the Texas Star Trailride.
